FREDERICTON (GNB) – Top names for children born in New Brunswick in 2018 included Emma, Olivia, William and Liam.
Preliminary results released by the Vital Statistics Office at Service New Brunswick show that 5,448 children were born in the province in 2018: 2,812 males and 2,636 females. In 2017, there were 6,543 children born: 3,333 males and 3,221 females.
“I congratulate all the families who welcomed new arrivals this past year,” said Service New Brunswick Minister Sherry Wilson. “Our government is committed to working to ensure that the New Brunswick dream is available to current and future generations through financial security, a peaceful and diverse society, and strong institutions which encourage innovation, growth and risk.”
In 2018, there were 974 different names given to boys and 1,191 different names given to girls born in the province, compared to 1,045 different boy names and 1,342 different girl names in 2017.
The most popular names for girls in 2018 were Emma, Olivia, Charlotte, Amelia, Avery, Everly, Abigail, Zoé, Ellie, Audrey, Sophia, Ava, Lily, Emily, Jade, Chloe, Alice, Mila, Isabella, Hannah, Evelyn, Clara, Sophie, Violet, Ruby, Ella, Claire, Brielle, Aubrey, Scarlett, Madison, Mia, Lucy, Brooklyn, Nora, Isabelle, Jasmine, Harper, Aubree, Layla, Elizabeth, Grace, Addison, Annabelle, Stella, Peyton, Zoey, Willow, Penelope, Rose.
