Overview
The public transit stream will support new transit networks, service extensions and active transportation infrastructure that will transform the way that Canadians live, move and work.
Eligibility
Eligible Projects
Eligible projects must meet at least one of the following outcomes:
• improved capacity of public transit infrastructure;
• improved quality and/or safety of existing and/or future public transit;
• improved access to public transit; or
• improved capacity and/or quality of pathways and/or active transportation infrastructure.
Ineligible Projects
• involves private sector for profit transportation services, including inter-community bus, rail, port, and ferry infrastructure;
• involves inter-community bus, rail, port and ferry infrastructure that is not part of a public transit system, unless construction start for the project can occur by September 30th, 2023; or
• is a stand-alone pathway or active transportation project, unless Construction Start for the project can occur by September 30th, 2023.
Eligible Applicants
Funding has been earmarked exclusively to the following municipalities with existing transit authorities. Communities without existing transit authorities are ineligible for funding. Allocations will be based on ridership numbers.

• Saint John
• Fredericton
• Miramichi
Description
Cost Sharing
The federal government will cost share up to the following:
• 40% of eligible expenditures in New Brunswick for new construction and expansion of public transit and active transportation;
• 50% of eligible expenditures in New Brunswick for public transit rehabilitation Projects; or
The provincial government will cost share up to:
• 33.33% of eligible expenditures for projects with municipalities.
Reporting Requirements
Climate Assessments
All projects with total eligible costs over $10 million will be required to submit a Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Assessment and a Climate Change Resilience Assessment as part of the project submission process
Community Employment Benefits
All projects with total eligible costs over $25 million will be required to report on community employment benefits generated by the project.
