MCADAM (GNB) – A contract worth about $1 million has been awarded to Soleno Maritimes Inc. for the purchase of pipe products, under the New Brunswick First Procurement Strategy and Action Plan.

“Soleno Maritimes is a perfect example of the direct impact our local businesses have on the economic growth of our province and communities,” said Service New Brunswick Minister Jill Green. “Building vibrant and sustainable communities is one of our top priorities. We are supporting local businesses in obtaining government contracts for goods, services and construction services throughout our province.”

“We will continue to work with local suppliers to support and strengthen our province’s economy,” said Green.

In the 2022-23 fiscal year, more than 81 percent of the value of all goods, services and construction contracts were awarded to local suppliers. This represents roughly $2.3 billion in spending kept within the province.

“Allowing rural exemptions under the NB First Procurement Strategy is important to local businesses competing for government contracts,” said Alain Poirier, president of Soleno Maritimes Inc. “This contract will help us grow our operation and staffing resources which also benefits the local economy.”

In November 2020, the provincial government launched the strategy and action plan to support local businesses and reduce barriers to obtaining government contracts.

The strategy and action plan are the result of a collaborative effort between Service New Brunswick, Opportunities NB and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. They are based upon extensive consultations with suppliers and industry associations in the province.
