FREDERICTON (GNB) – People moving within the province now have the option to register their address change online for medicare and motor vehicle services.

“Improving how public services are delivered helps to better meet the needs of New Brunswickers and enhances the quality of life for our residents,” said Service New Brunswick Minister Mary Wilson. “The new online address change option for medicare and motor vehicle services supports our work to provide convenient and modern government services to our customers.

“Service New Brunswick is pleased to offer this new service on behalf of the departments of Health and Justice and Public Safety.”

Online applicants must have a valid medicare card and will be required to upload supporting documentation. They should review the list of requirements and acceptable documentation before beginning their application.

Each online address change request can accommodate up to six household members and will be processed by a Service New Brunswick agent during regular business hours. 

An address change request for a medicare card will be completed within five business days. No new cards will be issued.

“New Brunswickers rely on their medicare card to access medical care,” said Health Minister Bruce Fitch. “Having valid, up-to-date information is important, and cardholders are responsible for notifying medicare of any change of address. We are pleased that these changes will make it easier to do that.”

After submitting the medicare address change request, applicants will be prompted to update their address for motor vehicle services.  

“We are always working to find new ways to provide services for New Brunswickers,” said Public Safety Minister Bill Hogan. “These changes will provide a more efficient service to residents. Not only will it save time, but it will also reduce some of the stress in the moving process.”

Residents can expect to receive a 30-day driver’s licence in the mail within 15 business days of submission. A new, standard driver’s licence should arrive in the mail shortly afterwards.

Updated vehicle registrations should arrive in the mail within 15 business days.

Applicants must apply in person at a Service New Brunswick service centre if:

  • same-day service is required
  • they do not have a valid New Brunswick medicare card
  • they are from out of province
  • they are changing their legal name 
  • they are applying on behalf of a New Brunswick company or business registered in New Brunswick
  • the address change is for a New Brunswick identification card 
  • there is a motor vehicle suspension on file

Service New Brunswick reminds customers that hundreds of its services are available online and through TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
