FREDERICTON (GNB) – Service New Brunswick will assist the Alberta government in its efforts to provide financial relief to those evacuees who suffered financial hardship due to the evacuation of Fort McMurray.

The Fort McMurray Wildfire Relief Funding for Evacuees Outside of Alberta program was announced on May 31 by the Alberta government. The role of Service New Brunswick will be to accept the applications for the Alberta government of those New Brunswick residents applying for the program who may qualify for assistance.

“As a government, we want to do as much as possible to assist New Brunswick families who have been affected by the wildfires in Alberta,” said Ed Doherty, minister responsible for Service New Brunswick. “We are pleased and honoured to partner with other Canadian jurisdictions on this worthwhile initiative. The team at Service New Brunswick is looking forward to providing support to New Brunswick families who visit our service centres.”

New Brunswickers who may be eligible for assistance are encouraged to visit the following Service New Brunswick locations for support in processing their applications: Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Dieppe, Woodstock, Bathurst, Miramichi, Campellton and Edmundston.

The Fort McMurray Wildfire Relief Funding for Evacuees Outside of Alberta program officially begins on June 1 and will run until June 15. More information on the program, which is offered by the Alberta government, is available online.
