Apply to be a professional caregiver, in your own home, for children with complex needs

• These caregivers will provide full-time, stay-at-home care for children with the most complex needs in the caregivers’ own home.
• The first phase of implementing eight professional care homes throughout the province will help determine the need for more professional care homes in the future.
• These new professional caregivers will play an important role in addressing the complex needs of children under the care of the Minister of the Department of Social Development / children in the Care of the government of New Brunswick.

• Interested individuals or couples with experience will need to demonstrate knowledge, education and skills in supporting children and youth with a range of needs.  Needs of children could be behavioural, emotional, mental health, or medically complex.     
• A high school diploma (or equivalent) and relevant post secondary (or equivalent experience working with children with complex needs).

Approved care providers will receive:

• Extensive initial training and ongoing professional development opportunities. Initial training consists of Parent Resource Information Development Education (PRIDE). This is a hybrid online training. 
  • Additional training could include:
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
  • safeTALK (suicide awareness/prevention)
  • Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) Trauma Informed Training
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCVI)
  • Rights of the Child
  • Cultural Awareness
  • The Brain Story
• Monthly compensation ranging from $2800 - $3500 / month, depending on experience of caregiver coupled with the need of the child.
• Child-in-care rates and benefits to cover the costs specific to the child’s care plan.
• Clinical support team which could consist of a clinician, psychologist, occupational therapist and social worker. The direct clinical support to both the child and the caregiver is a key element in the development of the professional care homes. It is based on a partnership between the departments of Health and Social Development, with the support of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, to provide the necessary resources and expertise to the care providers.
• Paid respite/vacation based on the needs of the child and the care providers but can be up to 24 days per year.
• Crisis/emergency support; The department has an after-hours toll-free number and response will be provided as quickly as possible.
• Specialized services that are relevant & necessary to care for the specific child, such as Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) services for an autistic child, clinical supervision and extensive support.
