FREDERICTON (GNB) – The new centralized common services organization known as Service New Brunswick is now officially operational.

The new Service New Brunswick has absorbed the functions of the New Brunswick Internal Services Agency, the Department of Government Services and FacilicorpNB. It will continue to provide government services to the public.

“Our government has moved forward with its plans to consolidate and modernize the way services are delivered across government and to regional health authorities,” said Health Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also minister responsible for the Strategic Program Review. “The consolidation of common services is a great example of how government can do things better, smarter and more efficiently.”

Savings will be achieved primarily through the modernization of technology, automated systems and business processes, and strategic procurement.

“For clients, vendors and suppliers, it will be business as usual as all agreements, contracts, arrangements and processes remain the same with the new corporation,” said Service New Brunswick Minister Ed Doherty. “With Service New Brunswick being fully operational, I am confident we will begin to see real savings for taxpayers.”

Legislation introduced in May created the new Crown corporation which is responsible for shared services including finance, information technology and procurement.
